Ataraxia’s sixth track in The Fox and the Flame
Mmm mmm
What's it like to be...happy?
Don't overthink...it's you and me
To say the least...you see me rightly
If you leave...catastrophe
Never pick up the phone
Unless it's your line
Wanna tell you everything that I've ever disguised
No physical touch
Unless it's yours
I'll trace your skin with fingertips
And want you even more
That's what it's like to be...happy
I only think...about you and me
Like a puzzle piece
You fit me perfectly
Even if you leave
I'd wait patiently
Never felt comfortable until you made room
To witness love is tearing up while holding you under the moon
Didn't wanna be loved, 'til the words rolled off your tongue
All my love was pourin' out in just one month
I guess this means...I'm happy
Where did you find it?
He's right next to me
Mm mm mm
Mm mm mm
Behind the Scenes
It’s a love song…to say the least. At the time I wrote it, I was in the very early phases of a new relationship. This song also stands as one of the few happy songs I’ve written and the first and only love song I’ve produced.
Considering the instrumental side of it, “What’s It Like to Be Happy” was the sanctuary that allowed me to unlock my electric guitar abilities. I chose to increase the reverb on the background vocals, specifically on the word “happy”, so that the “home base” of this song revolved around that word.
Since being so head down in the mental illness side of my life, I forgot what it was like to truly feel joy. The subject of most of my songs prior to this was mainly of sadness. And to write about the complete opposite feeling is a very different songwriting experience. At times, I felt awkward and cheesy choosing specific lyrics. Even singing it, my voice sounded different compared to my somber songs. I found myself smiling when recording a certain part and that changed the overall character of my voice. It added brightness and color inevitably.
While “WILTBH” is a lot different than the rest of my songs, it brings a much needed spark to The Fox and the Flame.
