Ataraxia’s seventh track to The Fox and the Flame
See, this is how I function
'Bout to gravitate right on cue
Can't help myself from falling
Fallin' for the muse
Like frosted peaks
A scene of glittering...crystal creeks
A cabin, a fireplace
Wood and wind are my grace
Free, let me go
Into ambience that grapples me
Do you hear that, my dear?
It's grasslands and fir trees
Anemones
See, this is how I function
'Bout to gravitate right on cue
Can't help myself from falling
Fallin' for the muse
Like frosted peaks
A scene of glittering...crystal creeks
A cabin, a fireplace
Wood and wind are my grace
Feet, take me home
To an Appalachian snowy sea
Do you see all the dear?
No need to grind your gears
See, this is how I function
'Bout to gravitate right on cue
Can't help myself from falling
Fallin' for the muse
Like frosted peaks
A scene of glittering...crystal creeks
A cabin, a fireplace
Wood and wind are my grace
Turn down all the words
And let me immerse
Replace it with color
All the notes turn into feathers
Every decibel an ember
Fill up my lungs
See, this is how I function
'Bout to gravitate right on cue
Can't help myself from falling
Fallin' for the muse
Like frosted peaks
A scene of glittering...crystal creeks
A cabin, a fireplace
Wood and wind are my grace
Behind the Scenes
I wanted to create a song that followed the name of each chord. “Wood and Wind” is in C major, so with every chord that I chose, I decided to start the lyrics with the same letter. “See, this is how I function” starts on a C chord and ends on an F chord. “‘Bout to gravitate right on cue” starts on a G chord and ends on a C chord. With each lyric, the words pertain to the chords for the entirety of the song. It challenged my ability to rhyme, compose compelling lyrics, and also added to my depth of music theory.
“Wood and Wind” is also about my love for music. I thought it was perfect to write about that when each lyric followed the music flawlessly. “Can’t help myself from falling, falling for the muse” describes the uncontrollable passion I have for melodies. It is also a C, F, Am progression.
