Ataraxia’s ninth track to The Fox and the Flame
Everyday I wake up knowing nothing
Nothing at all
Any way I take up air with breathing
Breathing evolved (evolved)
Oooh ahh ooh
It's incredible
I do whatever feels right
I just look up at the sky
Until my eyes burn bright
I cried myself a river
So that one day I could float upstream
I broke my heart into a million pieces
So that one day it would beat freely
ahh
(S O S)
(T...K...T...K)
Every night I fall asleep
Instantly
Dreaming easily
Any added weight to my body
Has no meaning
I value other things
Instead of counting
There's no such thing as "healthy"
Or calories
I cried myself a river
So that one day I could float upstream
I broke my heart into a million pieces
So that one day it would beat freely
ahh ooh
(EMRG...SOS...SOS)
I cried myself a river (T...SOS)
So that one day I would fill with sea (T...SOS)
I broke my heart into a million pieces (T...SOS)
So that one day it would stop beating
(T...SOS...K)
Behind the Scenes
“Emergency 0” gets its name from the Morse Code engrained in the synth. When researching Morse Code I found that “K” stands for “over” and “T” is an acronym for “zero”. When listening to the code, the rhythm of it stood out to me. All the lyrics in parentheses are the Morse Code lyrics of the synth. I used the acronym EMRG to stand for Emergency. Since the entire song is about my mental illness, the Morse Code is meant to be a cry for help, an S.O.S. to no one in particular.
I think of “Emergency 0” as the theme song for my disturbing mind problems. On a random day, I started singing the beginning lyrics, “everyday I wake up…” in a faster melodic rhythm than what is used in the song. It’s supposed to be my life without my mental illness. I changed the rhythm to fit the instrumental background and further slowed it down in the end to portray the heaviness of my problems.
